GeoSpace Labs and Aeris, a technology developer for the Internet of Things (IoT), recently announced that they are working together to help North American companies monitor commercial carriers hours of service to ensure compliance with federal safety regulations through IoT technologies.
Aeris and GeoSpace Labs are addressing an important requirement as more than two million drivers in the U.S. and Canada will need to be FMCSA compliant by the Dec. 18, 2017 and fourth quarter of 2019, respectively. The ELD rule, which is congressionally mandated as a part of MAP-21, is intended to help create a safer work environment for drivers, and make it easier and faster to accurately track, manage, and share records of duty status (RODS) data. An ELD synchronizes with a vehicle engine to automatically record driving time for easier, more accurate hours of service (HOS) recording.
The Aeris IoT Services platform is being used by GeoSpace Labs and its Geowiz PRO, a telematics solution designed to create and transmit electronic hours of service logs for transportation companies in North America. The Aeris IoT Connectivity services are allowing GeoSpace Labs to improve its service delivery and increase service radius.
Geowiz PRO provides advanced geospatial features, including a Carrier Information System (CIS) that includes the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA) compliant hours of service electronic logging device (ELD) technology.
